Now that looks to be interesting. A refreshing change from the usual band documentary.

From the Sundance site; filmguide.sundance.org/film/14228/lambert_stampIn the crazy, chaotic gospel of chance that is LAMBERT & STAMP, aspiring filmmakers Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert set out to find a subject for their underground movie, one that will reflect the way it feels to be young and dissatisfied in postwar London. This brilliant, but unlikely, partnership of two men from vastly different backgrounds was inspired by the burgeoning youth culture of the early 1960s. Lambert and Stamp searched for months and finally found in a band called the High Numbers a rebellious restlessness that was just what they were looking for. Abandoning their plans to make a film, they instead decided to mentor and manage this group, which evolved into the iconic band known as the Who. The result was rock ‘n’ roll history. LAMBERT & STAMP is charged with a mad concoction of noise, love, rebellion, artistry, and hilarity. Focusing on an extended interview with Chris Stamp, supplemented by insightful interviews with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend and evocative archival footage, director James D. Cooper takes us along on the surprising ride of two men who shaped one of the most exciting bands in world music: its sound and look defined a generation.

Epstein and Loog Oldham are well known so it's about time Lambert & Stamp got the credit they deserve for making it all happen.

Having read that review, it sounds like much of the archival footage used will already be familiar to many of us, especially the segment where Pete is playing them "Glittering Girl". Should be an interesting doc, though.

^ It's from a 1967 German tv show called "Die Jungen Nachtwandler" - a friend gave me a DVD copy of it about 5 years ago - it's pretty short, but has some very historical Who footage in it, including the footage of Pete performing Glittering Girl, and then the whole band trying to rehearse it.

The British premiere of a documentary on the origins of The Who has been cancelled, according to Daily Mail (lower story) ‘It got great notices at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, but the film has been pulled from the London festival,’ I’m told. ‘Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, who feature in the documentary, had a few issues that are being addressed.’

Hmmmmmmmmm. I hope these "issues" aren't anything too serious. It'd be a real shame to see this project shelved.

This film seems to have died a death? Has anyone got an update? It was pulled from UK Sundance festival. The film has been bought by Sony.I would love to see this. I was thinking about this just the other day.I'm not even sure if it would be "interesting" enough outside of hardcore Who fans for them to give it it's own dvd release. Here's hoping they do.Sony must have something planned if they bought it?

Sony Pictures recently had several unreleased films stolen from digital storage...........[or however they store films nowadays?] and are apparently being downloaded across the internet. unfortunately this film isn't one of them.

Documentary About The Who's Early Managers Scheduled to Open in Theaters This AprilLambert & Stamp, the recent documentary about the two men who discovered, mentored and managed The Who, is set to get its theatrical premiere on April 3. The flick, which was directed by newcomer James D. Cooper, tells the story of Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp, aspiring filmmakers who in 1963 set out to find an unknown band to feature in a movie they were making about England's flourishing music scene and who went on to help guide that group to rock stardom. Lambert and Stamp also founded Track Records, a label that released The Who's records, as well as albums by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Golden Earring and many other artists. The movie, which premiered in January 2014 at the Sundance Film Festival, features new interviews with The Who's Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, as well as with actor Terence Stamp, the late Chris Stamp's brother. No word yet on cities or theaters where the movie will be screened. abcnewsradioonline.com/music-news/2015/1/15/documentary-about-the-whos-early-managers-scheduled-to-open.html
