A few observations on the Seattle gig:
1. A distracting factor: a very, very, very eclectic couple who sat in the row ahead of me. I'm unsure how to describe them, but yikes.
2. Liam Gallagher was in incredible voice. Whatever you think of his band or new songs, he's singing brilliantly at the moment and I was glad to get to hear that.
3. I hadn't seen a show at T-Mobile Park before (formerly Safeco Field). In general it was great - I was on the floor at the back, and had a clear line of sight to the stage. Didn't need the screens at all.
4. The "Tommy" set was fantastic. Exactly as you'd expect, but the orchestra complimented everything phenomenally well.
5. Eddie Vedder!!! I met a girl in line for a beer who bought the soundcheck ticket, so she spoiled the surprise by saying Eddie checked a mic, but that just made me more excited. I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan, so the possibility of Eddie joining for a song was very exciting. And he did a great job of Punk and The Godfather. Just brilliant. Also, I'm glad it just worked out to a bonus song, rather than swapping out anything else normally on the list.
6. Quad is my favorite Who album, so it's only natural that I'd be more excited about those songs. Even so, they surpassed my expectations. If the Tommy numbers were "as you'd expect, but enhanced", the Quad numbers blew away any expectations. That piece was designed to be played with an orchestra, and even if you remove the extra instruments, Pete, Rog, Zak, and Simon are on fire on this tour. It's everything you could ever want out of The Who (even if I'd prefer Pino on bass).
A magical night which I will remember for a while. Who gig #5, and probably my second favorite.
