Petes songs on the album are among the highlights so far for me
And I’m loving “got nothing to prove”- it’s a nice sideline to include on the album
Some other songs seem mediocre but it’s day 1 so my opinion may change after a few more listens

After few spins, I'm pleasantly surprised with the album. Definitely stronger, better produced and not so uneven as EW.
So far the tracks that I enjoy the most, excluding the three singles, are Beads On One String, I'll Be Back, Break The News and This Gun Will Misfire. Hero Ground Zero works definitely better here than earlier on tour.
Got Nothing To Prove is a very nice addition, however I would have preferred it without the orchestrations, that seem a bit out of place.

Highlights for me are All This Music Must Fade, I Don't Wanna Get Wise, Detour, Hero Ground Zero, Street Song, Rocking in Rage, She Rocked My World and This Gun Will Misfire. I really didn't like I'll Be Back, I thought it was like a bad remake of You Came Back. I couldn't stand Danny and His Ponies. I'd like to hear the original versions of Got Nothing to Prove and Sand without the overdubs some day.
I wish the mix was better, I'm not happy with the low DR value, brickwalling and occasional clipping and distortion. Did Jon Astley and Kit Lambert's ghost have a hand in the mixing? I shouldn't think so but it sounds like it.

I love it! I didn't know Pete and Rog still had it in them to sound so...dunno...relevant? 2 fellas in their mid 70s still as contrary, as difficult, as humorous and as f***ng loud as ever. Roger sounds fantastic here, my god. In the past I've often been a little to unrealistic when it comes to the modern incarnation of my favourite band. Too quick to yearn for the earlier glories and sounds associated with Earth's greatest ever rock rhythm section, but that's just unfair. This is the Who 2019. Can't wait for Who 2020

Its mainly horrid. Man,did I ever think id say that. My heart is truly broken. Times have changed. Entwistle is dead. Moon has been dead for a long time. 70's rock has been dead for a long time. I love Iron Maiden. I love AC/DC. They make the same album every time. I wish Townshend and the Who would make Who's Next over and over again. But that is never what the Who have given us. Thank God they changed after Sellout. They changed before Sellout. They changed for almost every album. I love almost all of them. It is no surprise that we got the album we got this year. My only criticism is that this album is not made by a band. What I mean is that they have micromanaged the bass and the drums. I don't like that. I want a real musician/personality/artist playing the bass. And likewise for the drums. This is not a foreign concept to Townshend. The musicians on Empty Glass and Chinese Eyes and White City were amazing. A change in strategy? Egomaniac. But the performances by egomaniac #1 and egomaniac #2 are excellent. It is a small miracle that we got this album. We can always go back and play the old albums and listen to the old concerts. Shep78, I am much more with you than against you.

Re the deluxe CD version. Liked tracks 1-7 on first listen, wasn't to sure about 8-14. Stick with this album, it's a grower & a fine album.

Its mainly horrid. Man,did I ever think id say that. My heart is truly broken. I'm interested in which parts you like and which you think horrid, Shep? Have you changed your mind at all since release? Why are the parts you dislike so dislikeable? Please elaborate, I'm seriously interested. I've been listening a lot the last week or so, mainly on late night dog walks. I like it more and more with each (full) play though.

First, let me say that I am not looking for answers. I don't care what the answers are.
I don't like that Endless Wire was released as a deluxe edition on day one of its release.
I don't like that this new album was release as a deluxe edition on day one of its release.
I have been thinking about the 3 extra tracks on the deluxe edition. The record company must have asked for extra tracks. Were there no extra songs recorded for this album? There probably were. Why not put those tracks on the deluxe edition? Why 3 Townshend solo songs?
It is a small complaint.
Still love the album.
It sounds so different when you play it through headphones vs a stereo setup vs my cellphone speakers.

Rockin' in Rage is missing the horn section.

I actually thought the choice of bonus tracks for the deluxe was quite clever. Had they chosen three new songs, it wouldn’t sway the nay sayers. Some people just do not want new Who music. Whereas by including three old ones, you give something that those guys would want. The mistake was that it’s not clear from advertising or packaging. They have to increase number of formats to boost sales. That’s the way of the world now. It’s no coincidence Pete was signing hundreds this album but never did before.

Only bought the album and not the Deluxe (Scrooge is alive and well) and have to say the album is so much better than I expected or believed The Who could ever record again yeah there is for me a couple of duffers (I'll Be Back being one) but overall the album is far more consistent than Endless Wire and if it is to be their swansong then it's great way to bow out. Great sound on the album too so much so that even I Don't Want To Get Wise a song I didn't like when I first heard it on YouTube sounds so much better on record..

there is for me a couple of duffers (I'll Be Back being one) One of my favourites. It has overtones of 1921! The tracks I felt most duff were Rockin' in rage and She rocked my world, though the former has grown a little. It still sounds like a blend of songs rejected from Sweeney Todd and McVicar though

As of now i've been really, really into "Danny and my ponies". Don't know what it's about tho! It sounds like an English fable or something?

It seems alot of people like this album alot. Some are saying that they want another Who album right away.
I 100% believe that this will be the last actively made Who album.
It is better that they go out on a high note. I don't think that this album was easy to make.

I love the Sand bonus track which I found on YouTube. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, to the point where I'm very tempted to upgrade my standard copy of Who to the Japan deluxe version that has Sand.

It is better that they go out on a high note. I don't think that this album was easy to make. I have exactly the same feeling. They aren't getting any younger and Pete has stated many times that it is not easy for him to write material that fits The Who brand. The new album is very strong effort at this point of their career and would be a good final record.

The only glimmer of hope for something new is the fact that he wrote it quite a while ago when he handed them over to roger, and has stated he has been writing since then
They seemed genuinely surprised at how well it was received both critically and chart-wise....
Realistically , an album could be made from 6 Pete songs. Throw in a couple of Simon songs and maybe covers and they could do it. Or 6 new Pete songs with four old ones from the bottom drawer

Back to talking about the new album.
I can't stop thinking about Polydor wanting the album to be made better in Feb of 2019.
This is the album's tracklist.
1. All This Music Must Fade 2. Ball and Chain 3. I Don't Wanna Get Wise 4. Detour 5. Beads on a String 6. Hero Ground Zero 7. Street Song 8. I'll Be Back 9. Break the News 10. Rockin' in Rage 11. She Rocked My World 12. This Gun will misfire.
track 13 and 14 musicians are not listed on Wikipedia. Must be only Townshend playing on these tracks. 13 sounds like there are a lot of other musicians playing.
So, accessing wikipedia, It's revealed that Zak Starkey and Pino Palladino played on tracks 1,2,4,7
Pino also played on 8,11,12
Joey Waronker played on 5,8,11,12
Gus Seyffert, bass, played on tracks 3,9,10
So, It looks like the tracks, in order of creation were:
1. All This Music Must Fade. 2. B&C 4. Detour 7. Street Song 8. I'll Be Back
Then these were made: 5. Beads on a String 11. She Rocked My World 12. This Gun will misfire
Lastly: 3. I Don't Wanna Get Wise 9. Break The News 10. Rockin in Rage.
And Most Last: 6. Hero Ground Zero.
Of course, I could be wrong.
I wonder if any songs were taken off the album as it progressed from Feb 2019 to Sept 2019. Or, did they just re-record the same songs.
And, of course, no need to mention that this album gets better with every spin.

WhiteFang has posted on his site how to remaster the new album:

Ps. For some reason, the ProBoards software seems to censor the URL, so here it is in another form:

Nice to have that insight on remastering it.
Next question.
In the mix/master that it was released, how are you supposed to listen to this? In the car? Headphones? Home stereo? Computer speakers?
The album sounds completely different when listening to it in all these ways.
