Don't know whether anyone noticed - Rabbit seems to be a little angry at times because it's only Rog and Pete that earn all the fame. Is clearly to be seen in his latest review and there also was an older one in which he mentioned a similar thing - he doesn't say this literally, ony by means of side-remarks, but it's clearly there between the lines... Must be hard - our eyes are on Pete and Rog indeed, all the applause goes to them really and nobody cares much about the others. Except for maybe Zak....

Personally I think Rabbit's role has been broadened too much. On the RAH 2000 DVD that I am still wearing out, imo he kills Bargain and BO. I understand that the "keyboards play an important role in some Who tunes, but for the most aprt I would prefer that he stay in the background. He is a fine musician, but too much organ or piano can be devatating to power rock.

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I'm with Obbo on this one.
I first saw Rabbit with the band at the Shepherds Bush show of '99, and he was much too prominent, both in the mix and as an additional player. He served only to weaken a lot of the material, diluting the power.
I'm not anti-keyboards in Rock, the right style of keyboard playing can compliment noisy guitar music very well. The soundscape of the Small Faces, Deep Purple and Charlatans would be severely and noticeably lacking without keys. But Rabbit's style is too laid back and cliched to provide the same kind of drive those players bring/brought to the mix.
I'm sure he's a very nice bloke in person, but he has to remember that he's really just a paid session man for The Who. It's not really his place to get annoyed about being incorrectly recognised. Pete and Roger spent over 40 years earning that recognition, and paid in blood, sweat and tears......literally.

Agreed. Too much keyboards in certain songs are overkill. Sometimes it is neccesary in such songs that require the emphasis made by the keyboards to shine through. However, too much emphasis in specific songs will only take away the rawness & rough edge those particular songs require to make them the way they are meant to be played & heard. Keyboards generally should be heard in songs that require them but should take a back seat to the main instruments.

I don't get any anger or resentment from Rabbit's ramblings. In fact, he often times sounds like one of the great yes-men of all time. And although I say that, I really don't mean to be critical of him. It's just that his thoughts/writing is sometimes a bit, well, corny. But God bless him, we love him anyway, and I certainly hope to continue reading his entries. kc

I think he knows and expects that that's who the people are obviously going to see, and they're running the show. I think he just wishes that the all the people who go on to his site to read about the Who gigs would occasionally buy some of his music. But as far as playing with The Who, I think he's just happy to be there.

I have an album by a band called Morgan - led by Pete's nephew - and Rabbit plays a lot of Hammond organ throughout and his contributions are so much stronger than with The Who. Very much heavy Hammond like The Charlatans, Small Faces, Spencer Davies Group, etc. It's puzzling why he does not play so with The Who as he is a very talented keyboard player. His solos, in My Gen for example, are so reserved.

if you read his early diary entries, you see he recognizes he will be in the background with the who. however, he may now want more recognition. in my opinion, if he gives pete and rog a lot of cr*p then send him off back to texas. i saw the who for the first time in 2002 and thought his solo in relay was obnoxious and would rather have heard more of a jam led by pete.

It's interesting that Rabbit writes in his latest blog:
"I noticed Oasis had a keyboard player. I never heard him once, don't even know who he was............. but sure enough, hidden behind Noel, there he was, hidden by a huge hammond, in the dark, never a note heard. Somebody explain it to me.........Why do guitar bands hire keyboards, knowing that they never want to hear anything but their own guitars, and they don't want the audience or tape machines to hear their keyboards either, so what's the point. Why do bands like that hire a keyboard player in the 1st place?.........somebody answer that for the ol' Rab?............ "
In an odd sort of way, it's refreshing that even seasoned musicians like Oasis suffer from the 'sound man (person, to be pc) blues'. Apparently, Rabbit believes the keyboard player couldn't be heard by design, but maybe Rabbit's question should be "why do bands hire lousy sound people"?

What I thought was interesting was reading somewhere that Pete overheard two people talking in the bogs after the Leeds gig,& 1 of them said that he thought that The Who were great, but he'd also seen Deep Purple, who he thought were better live. Maybe Pete started thinking "Hmmm....keyboards"

I think you're all being mean! ;D Im sure if he was getting too big for his boots they'd have cut him right back down to size by now!Jerry Lee Lewis would be turning in his grave at this keyboards debate! I always thought The Who were maximum RnB and keyboards are quite acceptable in Rnb. You want to talk about powerful music where keyboards are used with maximum energy and raw power try listening to soul power not chord power ;D

Just a thought....... Surely the front of house mixing desk has overall control of levels. It`s up to them to reduce Rabbit`s level if it`s too loud... Similarly many people feel that Pino`s bass isn`t loud enough....

I'm pretty sure that's one of the (6389) things Bobby Pridden is responsible for; hence Pete's "discussion" with Bobby. kc

I mentioned this to some of the others on the other board, but when I was at Twickenham earlier this year, I saw this guy who had the most incredible hair "style". He was bald, but had a parting virtually at the back of his neck, and had brushed all of it forward to cover his (patently obvious) bald head. It was quite extraordinary. We were trying to work out the industrial grade gel that would be required to keep it in place, and also how it was that none of his friends (he can't have any, surely?) had told him how stupid he looked!
Of course, no-one could take their eyes off him. He probably thinks that everyone, male or female, fancies him!
