Mike Myers is Canadian w/ English background and has said in interviews preceding this movie that he does play drums. And Roger is the co-producer. And, in any case, he is an actor. After all, actors are supposed to play a part, they are not expected to "be" the person. There's nobody like Keith Moon around but it doesn't mean that no actor would be able to portray him. Or do you think that Russell Crowe had to be a genius at Maths in order to play Nash on "A beautiful mind"? True, but I think age is the big issue. Myers is already too old. At the current rate of motion, by the time the movie starts filming he'll probably be pushing 50....if we're lucky! Daltrey should hand the project to a respected film maker, and step back into an advisory role regarding Moon - nothing more. Then maybe the ball would start rolling. Due to the constant delay in getting the film to "in production" status, they've also missed a number of fantastic opportunities to release it on the back of assorted moments of high profile Who activity - which would have provided a much needed extra boost into the public conciousness. Once the forthcoming 'Tommy' anniversary bollocks is out of the way, I really can't see The Who doing anything to gain them a public profile anywhere near equal to that of the previous decade's peaks - for example, Quadrophenia in '96, the 2000 tour, the return to the Isle Of Wight, Live 8, or Endless Wire. They've pretty much shot their bolt where that angle is concerned.

My point has nothing to do with actors ability to act. My point is Keith never gets the praise he deserves as a musical great. Everything you read or hear is that he was a bonkers "Rock Star". Perhaps Keith was his own undoing. The cult of celebrity doesnt want to know about the talent, only how f**ked up they are. Where can this film go regarding any portrayal of Keiths unique musical talent? NOWHERE!

They've pretty much shot their bolt where that angle is concerned. In terms of age, a lot depends on the period they concentrate on. Moon looked far older than he actually was in the last few years of his life, so that's probably not so much of an issue. Myers playing 25 year old Moon though - errrrrr....no. I agree with the rest of what you say.

Mike Powers is American and cant play the drums so there goes any credibility about this arse of a movie, and since when has Roger been a great movie maker ? Puke. Mike Myers is Canadian w/ English background and has said in interviews preceding this movie that he does play drums. And Roger is the co-producer. He probably picked up a bit from his good buddy Dana Carvey.

I tend to agree with Ivor about this movie. Biopics tend to be made for the uninformed masses. I can only enjoy them if I know absolutely zero about the subject person; otherwise they come across as a bit hokey.

a bit hokey and usually a ton of historical revisionism as well. That drives me nuts.
Keith was indeed his on undoing in terms of being taken seriously for his music. He was one of THE drummers of all-time but sadly he decided it was more important to be a celebrity or be wasted than a drummer. He peaked (to me) on Who's Next. Tasteful, innovative, technically proficient and it really drove the music at the same time - that's a rare combination. As a drummer, I still listen to songs like "Bargain" in amazement (I can play it beat for beat but I'm just copying him - he created it). His drumming up to that point was insanely good.

Here's your cast for the Keith Moon movie: The only big name would be Collin Farrell as Keith, Dominic West (of HBO's The Wire) plays John, Pete is a tough one....I guess I would go with Nick Cage with some make up, and Wentworth Miller (TV's Prison Break) as Roger. Just my thoughts

I may or may not get some strange looks for this idea, but I'm going to say it anyway. I've been thinking about the movie for a few weeks, and I think I've found someone who could be considered for Pete. His name is Rodrigo Santoro, and he played a character Paulo on Lost this season. Now, he'll need a little tweeking with the accent - he is, after all, considered the Brazilian Tom Cruise - but when you see him, hopefully you'll see some resemblence, and it would defantly put a very attractive spin on Pete. www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Rodrigo_Santoro#External_linkswww.lostpedia.com/wiki/PauloOh, appearently he was in 300, if that means anything to anyone. Just a thought.

erm....maybe it;s just the photos on that site but i see zero resemblance with Pete ...?! also think Nic Cage is just too old...can you imagine him doing the jumps and splits with the required passion and speed...? val kilmer had a great resemblance to jim morrison for the doors movie which helped it my girlfriend actually keeps saying this guy looks like a young Pete...I'm coming round to the idea...obviously add more hair and maybe facial hair... news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41218000/jpg/_41218486_soapstar_2_203.jpghe's a soap actor in UK - Andy Whyment

Speculation from C.H.U.D.com MIKE MYERS ACQUIRES EXCUSE TO SKIP KEITH MOON BIOPIC 05.23.07 By Jeremy Smith Contributing sources: Variety A lot of development dollars have undoubtedly been wasted on this remake of an adaptation of a short story reportedly loathed by its original author, but it's the idea that counts, right? If so, I still don't understand why James Thurber's The Secret Life of Motherf***ing Walter Mitty persists as a viable project for vain comedy stars desperate to discover their inner Danny Kaye (as if that's something worth discovering; I'd go for Danny Thomas, 'cuz at least he a) grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and b) had a poo fetish). Jim Carrey circled the redo for years, doing his best to entice the A-list likes of Steven Spielberg (Mitty does imagine himself as a RAF pilot) or Opie Cunningham (it'd make him another pile of cash to keep his other piles of cash company) to direct, but he ultimately failed for a variety of reasons. The project popped up again in 2005 as a vehicle for Owen Wilson and director Mark "Brother of Daniel" Waters, but that proposed incarnation mercifully went the way of Julia Ormond. Why Mike Myers, a legitimate superstar no matter how infrequently he works, would want to take the sloppy thirds of Carrey and Wilson seems inexplicable until you realize that he's in dire need of an exit strategy from See Me, Feel Me: Keith Moon Naked for Your Pleasure. Myers will be forty-four this Friday, which means he will officially be twelve years older than the antic drummer of The Who when he died. I have all the respect in the world for Myers's comedic chops (even if he's far too comfortable with repetition), but he's about to reach an age where he'll no longer be able to pull off a dissipated twenty-eight. So, rather than resurrect the Austin Powers franchise for an unasked for fourth installment, Myers can now beg off of See Me, Feel Me for Mitty once he's done with The Love Guru (where he'll play a self-help character with a funny accent; dismiss it all you want, but this kind of s**t is why we loved Peter Sellars as kids). The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has migrated from Paramount to 20th Century Fox, and will be rewritten for the umpteenth time by veteran comedy writer Jay Kogen. Somewhere, Donald Marguilies is bitching over a soon-to-be-blown studio paycheck.

I'm very exicited about how the film will be. I haven't seen any pictures of Myers playing Keith yet. We'll see what comes out of it. I sure am looking forward to it.

IMHO, I don't think Myers can pull off Keith, maybe the chubby Keith, but overall I don't think so =/ but hey, still looking forward to it.

What about Zak as Keith? I wonder if he can act? He'd be an easy Keith lookalike with a little make-up,. Plus, he's a real rock musician, he plays with The Who and is probably the closest to Moon's drumming as you're gonna get! I'm sayin' Mark Walhberg for Daltrey. I know it may sound crazy but he's the same height, has a similar build and has acted as a singer (regardless of what you think of Rockstar...). As for Pete and John, I'm clueless.

It's nice just facial hair. They could put facial hair on anyone. John's face is very distinct. John's voice is very distinct. Only person I can think of for his voice is Kiefer Sutherland. I think he's about 40 now so he could probably play John age wise. Too bad Donald Sutherland is old. I think he'd be perfect. Here's a pic: www.memoram.com/Donald_SutherlandSHOP.jpg

I once read that they would focus the movie around the last days of his life. In that case, Meyers would do fine, because then Keith looked ten years older than he really was.
But I also have my doubts wether it will happen.

I'm looking forward to seeing this film and how it all comes together...however, I'm not sure why Mike Myers was casted when someone else should've been casted to play Moonie...oh well.

Don't know if there will ever be a "moonie movie" but Myers would be an interesting choice. One question, how could Myers an amateur drummer ever play even half the notes Moon did? Forget the acting, that daunting task would bring anyone up short.

Forget the acting, that daunting task would bring anyone up short. Actually, there will be a movie based on Keith's life with the working title "See Me, Feel Me (Keith Moon Naked For Your Pleasure)." Roger's producing the film and Mike Myers will be playing the Loon Moon. You are right about the drumming. I'm sure Mike will do his best to pull it off.
