Sorry to interrupt guys, but I need to say this.At least they're still touring.(I know that's been said 1.2 million times)The band seem to have always been apted to get locked in a comfort zone, and this goes back right to the beginning of there history. They play what is most easy for them and what flows.I'm a semi-pro musician and I know what it can be like to get caught in the norm, and not change or learn new numbers.Plus there is always someone in the band who will not want to do something. That's just the way it is.I guess as fans we just accept it.Granted we're not happy with it though!I've been listening to Punk and the Godfather whilst jotting this down!Anyway carry on as you were!

Pete stated in 1971 he feared the band would eventually become a cabaret act.Sadly for us it is what it has become.

A cabaret act? C'mon, you wait until you are 60 years old and then compare yourself to the man you were at 20 or 30 and you'll be a cabaret act, too, and we all will.

>That's an idiotic statement on two levels:
>Firstly, we're talking about the band in 2000.
>Secondly, 'retired' is defined as meaning "Withdrawn from one's occupation, business, or office; having finished one's active working life". I'll let you figure out why you've used that word incorrectly.
Sorry. I haven't used it incorrectly. "Having finished one's active working life" is just where they are.
They retired from their active working life in 1982, and they are piddling with tours and charity shows that they really have no requirement to do. They are both wealthy, and have stated (for example, in regard to the QUAD tour) that they only toured until they made back their start up costs. If you notice, they like high-paid gigs (iBash, CBS show) as a way to finance start-up costs for short tours, and also enjoy Pacific gigs that include long tax-deductible lay-overs in Hawaii. They're retired.

I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers a couple of months ago in Cardiff. I'm not a big fan, but thought it'd be a good gig.
I knew every one of the tracks they played. Basically a greatest hits show - nothing new as far as I could tell. Now, all I've heard from RHCP fans is what a great show it was and to be honest it wasn't. Musically spot on, but no emotion, no audience interaction. They were playing for and to themselves.
Having seen the Rog and Pete show 3 times this year, I couldn't accuse them of not caring or just playing for themselves.

according to recent daltrey interviews this band is far from retired......they plan on continuing until one of the remaining originals drops.....whether it be in 5 or ten years.....supposedly working on new material.....3 tours in 4 years.....i wouldnt call that retired....

Don't burst my bubble Maples! Since discovering the band play for free and only need their costs covering, I've been planning on booking them for a private show. I'm pretty sure I can cover the costs of their ferry tickets and hotel rooms!

does this mean you can dictate the setlist to them.... Waddya think? I'll cover the cost of their ferry tickets and accommodation, I've got some equipment they can borrow for the gig, and they apparently don't require any personal payment. This is a win-win situation. I slip them 20 quid each beforehand - a nice little personal bonus - and they'll be playing Foo Fighters songs all night if I want!
