I'm waiting for the announcement of the very expensive super deluxe box set edition of this best-of which will have an otherwise unavailable concert with Keith on drums.

Correct. They had to decide if they could get the song together in time

Just been played was a bit worried with the opening but thought it got better as it went on....definite grower, obviously not a classic.
I'm sure on here though it will be ripped to bits

I bought the Deluxe Edition today. Still not sure whether or not tracks like "Zoot Suit", "Postcard", "Dogs" and "The Last Time" belong on it. They were singles, but I'd rather have better tracks like "Pure & Easy", "Too Much Of Anything" or "Punk And The Godfather" in their place. Tracks sound good, but I was a bit disappointed with the booklet. I had hoped for a more elaborate booklet, with liner notes, some words by Pete and/or Roger and some more pictures.
Oh, and I say it again: damn, Roger sounds good on "Be Lucky"!

Hmmmm...I can't really justify buying a another compilation for just one song...guess...I'll just add "Be Lucky" to my Itunes. I guess this must be for the new fan/ or general Christmas stocking filling.
But I've just noticed that WGFA is the single version!! ya'wha? I hate the single version...sounds like a record that's been badly scratched and jumping ahead.
I suppose on the face of it, its trying to capture the varying sounds of The Who over the last 50 years. But I would have included "I don't even Know myself" ahead of Dogs/ Postcard , but Come to think of it.....Waspman would have been a good call as well.

I wonder what mix of "Pictures of Lily" they used. I was listening through headphones, and it seemed like the volume of the song suddenly got louder halfway through.

I don't know about that but I do hear that the guitar-intro to It's Hard is different than the album version, atleast the versions of the album i've heard.

got it today. Glad Relay and Postcard were included. was listening to Trick of the Light and the intro seemed a bit different. It might have just been because it was my first listening of the song on a Cd player (don't have Who Are You album )

seems as though they swapped "My Wife" for Postcard. imagine if that was done live. that would have been so cool.

"Success Story" would have been a better substitute as to my ears, it's one of the best songs they ever did. It's right up there with anything that Pete wrote for them.

But in terms of track list it's not bad as an overview Although I would've added the real me and young man blues... I find Zoot Suit to be a supremely weak opener, and it's not even The Who. It's some band called The High Numbers. The campaign for its removal begins here!

I don't recall ever having heard the extended mono version of Magic Bus that' included, so that's another plus for the album!

That'd be the LP, Tom? The CD has a stereo mix.
For such a basic track there's a number of variations. I'll have to dig back into my memory for this.....On CD the short mono mix appears on Who's Better Who's Best, The Singles and My Generation The Very Best of. The stereo mix appears on The Ultimate Collection and Meaty Beaty. There's a longer mono mix on The Who Collection, in fake stereo.
I think that's right, someone correct me if not. I ain't even going to risk the variety of LP appearances!
