I saw The Who last Thursday and they were better than 1982. Having said that, I watched the DVD last night. It was okay. The 80s video effects annoyed me a bit. Nice to have in the collection, but not essential. I agree with you 100%. I feel it was kinda odd choice for a DVD release. I don't know how much of older material they have in vaults - or do they have rights for it (like Tanglewood that was removed from Maximum R&B Live reissue), but for example Chicago 1979 would've made a better Jones-era release. If there is nothing older, I'd like to see a release from early 2000s with Ox, some really strong shows on those tours. And judging from bootlegs, all of them were filmed Ironically, this tour is well represented on official release. It's one of their most covered : - Who's Last - The Who Rocks America video - Live From Toronto CD & DVD - Live At Shea Stadium - All the live bonus track from "It's Hard" reissue - The Shea Stadium excerpts from the 13 october on "Maximum R&B Live" - "The Quiet One" in the bonus tracks of "Face Dances" who's from Shea Stadium too It seems that they wanted to make profitable the professional multitracks recordings from that tour.

It's backwards marketing. This is the type of release for completists or masochists.
What they should've done (with a fair amount of whinging from fans) is to rerelease the kids are alright - it's a release like that which would appea to the casual fans they've picked up through the whole 50yrs marketing blurb, and Glastonbury/Hyde park If newbies pick up Shea stadium they'll wonder wtf all the fuss is about the who being a "live" band
