Hmm, always nice to get official releases, but I agree that it is not much of a performance.
Interesting that it gets a Blu-Ray release as well, cause I'm pretty sure the original concert was shot on videotape, not film. Probably cause it gives a chance for HD soudtracks.

I had this as "who rocks America" vhs I think Flat sound, bored band;awful guitar tone "The Who Rocks America" is actually the Toronto show that was released as "Live in Toronto" a few years ago. The band seem more engaged in the bootlegs I've seen of the Shea shows, and the sound of this is bound to be better than that of "Who's Last", hence my resignatory optimism.

Always nice to see a new official release, though. Three bonustracks from the first night. Is that all there is available? I would love to see this:
"12 October 1982 Shea Stadium, Queens, New York At the end of “See Me, Feel Me,” Pete bounced his black Schecter a few times on stage before tossing it up and over the amps. It didn’t break, though. Then, at the end of “WGFA,” Pete kept prolonging the ending until John finally unplugged his bass and tossed it to the center of the stage like a slow pitch softball. It didn’t break, though. (Ron Kiska)"

From what I've heard, this is driven by fans who were very unhappy with the sound quality of WHO'S LAST and Toronto and wanted a well-mixed, representative 1982 show. We'll see what they come up with. Heaven knows Pete was probably at his unhappiest at Shea. "I never wanted to play f**king' Shea Stadium!"

Looking forward to this as even though "Toronto" got me into the band the sound was lousy.

Remixed Love, Reign O'er Me from the new Bluray/DVD:
Sounds great. Nice, full, drum sound and a good balance overall, I'd say.
The October 12th show will be released in Japan by Yamaha Music, not Eagle Rock, by the way.

How does Kenney manage to get his drums to sound like a drum machine....... Or like someone throwing a cabbage at a wall..... I bought some Smiths remasters but the drums still have that 80s dull flat sound. You can't polish a turd they say....

The who were better in the eighties than they are now Most people would be "better" at their job at 36 than when they're 71. But I still enjoy this part of their career more than the live 80s Each to their own I guess....

Why release this. It only serves to damage their reputation Indeed, the touch of magic had completely left the building ... but will come back in 1989 ... until 2002 !

I found this even surprisingly enjoyable show to follow (I'd seen bits on bootleg before). Although it's funny and sad at the same time to see Pete change from energetic to bored and fed up and back even within songs (e.g. Baba).

It is a fun show, but it all seems very clinical and businesslike. They were probably better technically back then (not to mention the presence of John), but the passion and enjoyment on display in the 21st century Who beats the '82 band by a mile, even now, when they're into their 70s.

First time in almost twenty years I watched a show from this tour and it was exactly as I remembered.such a shame to see Pete just did NOT want to be there. Sound was flat even in DTS-HD A positive surprise was how good roger could sound. The past 4-5yrs have given him a hammering Johns bass sound wasn't great on this. And kenny,well.... It didn't feel like a who gig- no one looked at each other. Just played the rehearsed tunes One thing I loved about the 99-02 period was how tight they were on stage and all looking at each other to go to different places as they had done earlier in their career

Like Whoireland I've some bootlegs DVDs from the North American 1982 Tour, but I've almost never watch them. Same for my bootlegs CDs from that tour. I know that there is pros and cons about this tour, but to me it's still one of their most uninspired ever. They look and sound bored on almost every shows. They are some magical moments, but they played like robots. It's blatant on "Love Reign O'er Me", played sometimes without emotions or feelings from Roger. It's not only Kenney who sounds like a machine, it's the whole band. And Tim Gorman is a good keyboard player, but he's definitely not groovy like Rabbit.

I saw The Who last Thursday and they were better than 1982. Having said that, I watched the DVD last night. It was okay. The 80s video effects annoyed me a bit. Nice to have in the collection, but not essential.

Nice to have in the collection, but not essential. I agree with you 100%. I feel it was kinda odd choice for a DVD release. I don't know how much of older material they have in vaults - or do they have rights for it (like Tanglewood that was removed from Maximum R&B Live reissue), but for example Chicago 1979 would've made a better Jones-era release. If there is nothing older, I'd like to see a release from early 2000s with Ox, some really strong shows on those tours. And judging from bootlegs, all of them were filmed
