I guess some people can't handle the truth. Fact is he can't sing. Like I said before on this post, it's clearly the taboo subject among fans. It's no really that "He can't sing", it's just that he can't sing the Who standards and hits correctly anymore. I know, it's just my opinions and my feelings. I'm not the kind of fan who bash everything that the band did, I'm rather indulgent but critic. I've tried several times to really enjoy this "Hit 50!" tour, but sadly I really can't. And it's not only Roger's fault, the main default to is that they're really too many on stage. Too many backing vocals, too many keyboards players, too many big screens, too many lights, every shows are the same, lack of spontaneity etc..

Got to agree with all of that, they really shouldn't be calling it the who.

Man this thread is rapidly turning into a yawnfest of cliches I've been hearing since 1979

Also some in-betweens of songs are filled with interview clips I hate it when they do that. +1

I can't believe Roger is still getting stick over his voice....The Guy is 70 years of age what do people really expect do they expect to turn up and see The Who of the early 70's? For a different analogy if I went to a charity football match with Maradona and Pele playing playing I wouldn't expect to see the players who won World Cups nor would I expect to see them run the length of the pitch beating 5 men and scoring a goal. It's about going to see legends in action the same as The Oo.... Personally I think the should have called it a day after the Quad tour which I think was a triumph, this tour has been far too long and exhausting for a man of his age, I think even a younger singer would struggle to keep up the schedule that they have been on. As someone mentioned earlier if you don't like it don't go and see them. It isn't The Who as we want to remember them from their hayday but for me since 2000 it ain't been too bad, with a lot more highs than lows.

And the idea that it shouldn't be called The Who has always seemed childish and whiny to me. "But my precious memories shall be tainted!"

Watched the DVD last night. Great DVD. Roger sounds fantastic! Pete is on fire. They both look very happy. Would have loved to see "Slip Kid", "So Sad About Us" or "A Quick One" as bonustracks, but oh well.. Quite a poignant moment during "Bargain", when a picture of John is shown on the screens and Roger stands motionless, just staring at the picture. Love the video of "Squeeze Box", hilarious. Would be cool if they made a full cartoon movie of it. But overall - I like this DVD very much!

I don't have it on disc yet (thanks to a postal strike over here it may take a while) but saw it in cinema and what you wrote made me think of another moment: during "Pictures of Lily" Rog turns around, sees image of Keith in drag on the screen and gets startled. Hilarious!

How is the sound on the DVD? People seemed to be in agreement that the sound was strange, with Pete's guitar mixed low in the first half, and Pino hardly audible (even during the MG solo) when it played in cinemas.

There must now be enough filmed Hyde Park performances of the band to fill a "Who In The Park" DVD box set. With the demographic of people who attended those gigs across the years that's got to be a bigger seller than any single gig from the batch. i agree 101%

btw, how you guys explain that lack of A Quick One While He's Away and especially Slip Kid - although it wasn't a long time ago when Daltrey said in the press that he likes a lot that By Numbers awesome 1975 album, and for me personally, that Roger's statement didn't sound like that that he likes only "Squeeze Box"? i'm afraid that's the band's big mistake to not put in the Hyde Park DVD those rarities regarded The Who live perfomances in the recent decades.

I think because it was a "Festival show" and not a "proper" Who show that they stuck to the greatest hits set.Same as they did at Glastonbury etc.

Hilarious, this implies they are doing anything other besides their tired "gretest hits".. now that's funny ... they are doing 100s show tours with same sh*t played same way/same order each night.. F**kers didn't do anything special for their 50, no special shows.. no nothing... f*** all celebration, same sh*t same way same order..

I didn't imply anything?I simply said that their reason most probably for not performing A quick one etc was because it was a festival crowd and they typically play it safe and play a shorter "hits" set at such shows!I didn't say I agree with it though or make excuses for it??

Just got the cd/blu ray video set this past weekend. I haven't watched the video yet, but the cds sound excellent and Daltrey's voice in surprisingly great shape!

btw, there is no doubt that the last really great The Who DVD, filmed live but in the new millenium, and with REALLY GREAT Roger's voice on it, was Live at RAH

Yea 50th anniversary tour really would've been the time to drop the hits in favour of dogs 2.....
The clue was in the title of the tour. Bit like going to see quadrophenia and complaining they didn't play Tommy.

Having watched the blu-ray couple of times now, I have to say I'm enjoying the film more and more. I have to say it portrays the current line-up much better than Quadrophenia DVD. Interestingly both are directed by same person, Chris Rule, so it must have been Roger's wish to make Quadrophenia seem more cinematic to support the narrative.
Of course I still could've done without some cuts (wondering why The Seeker was excluded from the film as it is still on the disc as an extra? Especially as it is a short song and a quite good version), few sequences with slow motion and in-between interview clips. I agree that A Quick One, So Sad About Us, Slip Kid etc. from this tour could've been included as extras, since every one of the shows was proshot with less cameras for in-house video screens.
In general, Rog's voice is very impressive (getting tired towards the end of the show), Pete is very much into it and the band is fine form, making the film very enjoyable documentation of The Who in 2015.

They really wanted to balance the performance with the visuals from the Quad show, and have the focus purely on Pete & Rog. Live in Hyde Park shows off the whole band, especially the 'regulars' next to Roger & Pete, and the director did a great job. You really get a feel for the band dynamics (although not as much as Live at Kilburn), which is always great to see with a band like the Who.

Yes in this age of DVD etc there's plenty of room for extras Unless they're planning a follow up to thirty years max video to gather all the rarities
The remasters rumoured never surfaced though so how long anything new would take is a wild guess...

I finally got round to watching the blu Ray
Pic quality and sound really is superb. Best looking who disk out there
Rogers voice has come in for quite a bit of hammering on this thread and I was negative having seen the ad featuring BOR I still think he's very weak on that song-it's simply a vocal for an angry young man to belt out, and not a 70yr old But on the classics like ICE,POL,TKAA he sounds great I enjoyed the interviews between songs- it makes it more o a documentary rather than straight show. Maybe intentionally to avoid comparisons to vintage who.? For anyone who saw the tour and enjoyed it this is a great souvenir Even if you weren't,there are enough songs to make it worthwhile
