anybody notice any change in sound with this red bass guitar compared to the one he used in the past? question goes out to those with them encore cd's

Sounds even softer than in 2002, don't like that sound at all!! That's good for jazz numbers, soft and rolling ... Nothing against Pino technically, he sure is a great bass player and would fit finely into the band except for that sound........

i agree, i haven't heard the 2004 encore cd's but it does seem he would fit better in a jazz band i used to play jazz on my trumpet

I can't tell you on any kind of technical level, but I can tell you that the bass is a lot more prominent on the 2004 Encore Cd's than it is on the 2002 ones.
I suppose that could be for any number of reasons.

The bass is slightly more prominent, yes, but it more a distant rumbling than clear, distinctive notes that is to be heard - a clearer, sharper and more metallic sound is what is needed

Pino said he was basing his sound on John's sound maybe early seventies. The softer sound that he used on Who's Next compared to the last few years he played live.
He's also louder in the mix 'cos Pete got lots of emails telling him to turn it up: John was never put through the PA because he was so loud.
