Got mine a few days ago, a decent DVD, good camera work, etc. Not a great gig though. A couple of nice interviews with Rog and Pete about john, new recordings, etc. Not sure when the interviews were taken but Rog says he expects the new album to be finished by November! Pete admits Rog wasnt happy with his voice on the DVD or Pete's makeup! When Rog was asked what his first thoughts where when John died he said "Oh f***! Ive been left with the misserable one"! Rog seemed to take his death a lot worse than Pete A still collection of John's photos as a extra could have be done better, perhaps some music, etc.
Overall a good DVD for the collection, but nothing special though!

I'm gonna go and get it tomorrow. Good or bad, it's a DVD of the only tour I've seen The Who on, so that's enough reason for me to buy it.
It's too bad they didn't film one of the earlier gigs though. Being the second to last show of the tour Roger must have been worn out. But on the first couple legs he was definetely on. I know at least at the beginning they were playing very intense, emotional shows, and I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if that carried through until the end.

I think the bass was more together by the end of the 2002 tour, though. It was really rocky at first, and noticibly better for the 2004 tour.

Got it today and watched it (haven't got to the interviews yet)
Good gig, not the best of the tour though. There's some really great moments which I think make it worth having (Sparks in particular...wow), but there's bits where the energy sags just a bit. After watching it once I can't recall any major "mistakes", everything seems to be played fine, there's just times where you can kinda tell it was the end of the tour.
Roger's not bad at the beginning, and overall he's not awful, but he's not at his best.
Pete is great on it. I know some people here aren't a fan of his current style/sound, but I think he's fantastic here. On Relay in particular he played a great solo with a big fat tone. Really good...
The "get on with it" stuff needs to stop. I know certain people like to be a "part of the show" or something...or make some kind of "connection" with the band...this is the wrong way to do it and on this show in particular it had a negative effect. Pete and Roger are clearly annoyed, and it doesn't help their performance if that's what the idea is there...
Zak is good overall, with moments that I'd say were great. Simon, Pino, and Rabbit are all solid and unobtrusive.
Great versions of Relay, Baba, TKAA, My Generation, the Quad set, and the Tommy encore (especially Sparks)...those stand out at the moment as being the highlights and I think warrant a purchase. Overall it's recommended. It's not the best example of what the band can do these days, it would have been cool if they had filmed, say, one of the MSG gigs or something which I heard were really good...but overall it's a pretty good document of the 2002 tour.

I've just started listening to the Boston 2002 DVD.
A+++ sound- It's much better then RAH 2000. Loud and raw which is great in 5.1 surround sound.
Film- Not as many cameras as RAH 2000 but, it has a much more natural look and it gives more of a live feeling.
Performance- Not the best from the tour but pretty decent.
The interviews with Pete and Roger are only 10-15 minutes but their asked tough questions about John and the band.
I like DVD and at $17.00, it's a bargain. JD

I've just started listening to the Boston 2002 DVD. A+++ sound- It's much better then RAH 2000. Loud and raw which is great in 5.1 surround sound. I'm a bit curious about something, I don't have a 5.1 setup (just the two crappy little speakers in front of my tv) so I don't know if it's just a problem with my "system"...but I thought on songs with backing tracks (WAY, Baba, Relay, etc...) that the backings were a bit too low. Is this just me? Still good sound though. Like the actual shows in 2002 Pete and Roger are up higher in the mix than the rest of the band, but there's a bit more bass than the show I saw. This might actually be part of what made it seem a bit less energetic at times...it might not actually be true. On stuff like RAH or other "MTV style" edited DVD's the quick cuts and all that stuff kinda create an "allusion" of energy (not that it wasn't actually an energetic performance) Here it's all pretty still and there's longer shots of specific things. For the most part, if Pete's windmilling the camera will stick with Pete windmilling. If Roger's twirling the mic it will stick with Roger twirling the mic. This wasn't the case with RAH. There was only two times that I can think of where the camera wasn't where I wanted it 1. At the end of WAY when Pete does those fast windmills in a row it only caught the last few. 2. When Pete slides the neck across the mic stand in Amazing Journey. This compared to the 20 or so examples in RAH, is better. The camera work actually seemed pretty much like what you would see on the video screens at a show. Better quality though.

Just another thing...
I just watched the interviews and they're really good. Especially Pete's. They're a bit short but there's a good amount of information in there.
Pete in particular touches on some interesting things pertaining to the current band vs the old band, the argument of whether or not it actually is a "band" or just a Who cover band, how they should approach the future, the new album (which he says "I'm kinda looking forward to", probably the most positive thing I've heard him say about new studio work)...I found it all pretty interesting personally and they definetely seem optimistic about the future.

alright then
I often have problems getting the audio right when I watch music DVDs with my crappy setup. There's a little button that gives me different audio options but it normally gives me all guitar, or all bass, but never a good balance of both.
cr*p.

I watched the DVD tonight and I really enjoyed it. Pete played some really good solos which caught me by surprise. The interviews were nice, too. I have never heard Pete laughing so hard, and he was very funny as well. Nice to see that side of him shining through.
The only thing I was missing was stage banter. Didn't they talk much to the Boston crowd?

actually the exchange between townshend and the fan in the front row was pretty good. he is a fan who followed them around that year. also do they show townshend talking to the crowd right as he walked on stage prior to playing can't explain and do they have the conversation he had with the very you girl who was sitting on her father's shoulders and he was trying to guess her age? or the exchange with a woman who sent him some kind of gift.

Sorry, I was going to then forgot. also do they show townshend talking to the crowd right as he walked on stage prior to playing can't explain No No I don't remember, but I don't think this was there either. I found it strange that they decided to leave the "f*** off" stuff in there, but not the rest of the banter.

thank you billybill. it's too bad they didnt include the banter in there....it as usual adds to the atmosphere of the show.... this is the show where he came out and before even playing a tune declared that "this is the last who show ever in history, only joking, only joking" an obvious reference to the many rumours going around at that time.

I haven't watched it all yet (I'm through EF).
I think this might be a little more "contained" show than most of the others from 2002; probably because they are filming. To me, the show seems to be "building up" as they go along; the opening 1-2-3 punch seems to lack the energy of other shows I've heard or seen from 2002. I was surprised there wasn't much of a solo on Sea & Sand.
The slightly more stable camera editing is a blessing over RAH 2000.
I need to watch the rest of it.
For those of you that have the encore series of this show, are there any "major" song edits? Are all of them intact?

I noticed Pete seemed to cut the jam in Sea and Sand short a little...also I was disappointed that they didn't extend the ending in Bargain like they normally do. That's always a highlight for me with Zak and Pete playing off each other, but it wasn't here this time. Still I'm very pleased with the DVD overall.

i saw the who in msg on aug 4 have that encore cd , and saw this mansfield show. you are all right that they did not jam as much as other shows. it did seem rushed to me, and the start time was earlier because no show can go past 11:00pm i believe, they had some cr*p time limit problem with the first show. i was watching the show on pete's site haven't bought the dvd but y'all right about what you 's be saying about it. i think it sounded pretty good show though and the banter is left out some of it at least.

wholigan you're right, mansfield has a strictly enforced 11:00 curfew. the first show the who played there that year they went past the curfew. the fine is substantial for violating the curfew....somewhere in the 1,000 dollar a minute amount. the venue was very upset about that and warned the other bands playing there that they would cut the power off on them if they went over the time limit. the ampitheater is built in extrememly close proximity to a residential area.

i don't own the dvd but was watching the who tv. at the beginning of the concert there was a quote from john about rain, hope people in the back hear him and he doesn't make any mistakes, and pete thanked people for coming out in this brutal new england storm. is any of that in the dvd.
