Anyone heard of the updates included on the remastered IOW DVD? Hopefully will get some of this:
1) Improved sound quality- The current DVD has a very thin sound which is nothing like the other live Who shows I've heard from 69-70. I like the Georgetown boot sound.
2) Songs put in original order played and loose as much of the editing as possible.
3) Definitely include Naked Eye and any other songs from that show not included. As a bonus I'd love to include the 1969 songs which weren't performed in 1970-Happy Jack, AQOWHA, I'm a Boy, Fortune Teller and Tattoo. Yes, it was filmed by a French film crew.
4) 5.1 DTS
5) More behind the scenes footage . I love the part at the end featuring Keith with the axe in his head.
Now, let's get to some great live 71-76 footage. Saratoga 71, Paris 72, and Paris 74 or some great unknown footage. JD

I really hope that the editing is being looked at. On some songs the picture simply doesn't match the sound. And some clips are reused.
It looks really unprofessional.
It would be obvious to correct this.

It would be obvious to correct this. That's because the footage was damaged, so rather than leave those songs out of the film, they edited in sections from other songs to fill the unuseable gaps. Well that's what the Director said....the same guy who recorded Hendrix at the same gig using at least 6 seperate cameras....

JD Come to think of it, we may just get that. The only reason it wasn't on the previous release was that the makers of the 'Message To Love' IOW Film wanted one exclusive Who track. This time round the two films are no longer in 'competition', so hopefully......

Just been reading an update about this release, and it looks like one huge wasted opportunity. The tracklist mirrors that of the previous version, there's no 'Naked Eye' and no corrected running order. The single "bonus feature" is a PT interview.
The sound has apparently been turbocharged, but personally speaking, that alone isn't enough to have me sprinting down to my local DVD emporium on the release date.

It is a bit of a shame that there wasn't more that could be done. I kinda figured the whole messed up editing thing would be unfixable. I don't know why they couldn't fix the order though.
But, I probably will end up buying it eventually anyway since I still haven't got the original one. And I bet the 40 minute Pete interview is good.
I'll probably wait a while though until I can get it used for fairly cheap...

Apparently they went back to the original negatives and film reels to improve the picture quality, so it's logical to assume they could have fairly easily changed the running order/edits etc at that stage. I suppose at the end of the day it was a (bad) financial decision not to spend time sorting those matters out.
It's a shame as this would have been the perfect opportunity for a complete overhaul of the show, quite literally making it a 'new' DVD, and it's highly doubtful there will ever be a third chance for such a revamp.
I sometimes think this is an attitude inherent with digital media. There seems to be an unspoken "well if we don't quite get it right this time it won't matter as we can fix it on the next upgrade" philosophy. In the old days an album/film/video would only be released once with NO thought of it ever being revamped at a future date, so care was taken to provide the best possible end product in that one release.

They must have some reason for not putting it in the right order, but I don't know what it is. Maybe because See Me Feel Me/Listening To You makes a better closer than whimpering out with the broken guitar pedal on Magic Bus...now that I think about it that makes some sense. I know Pete was unhappy with how the show ended. But, obviously it's not historically correct.
I don't think there will be another reissue. Other than the order and no Naked Eye, they've probably done everything that can be done with what they have to work with. The missing songs must just have way too much missing footage to be at all enjoyable.

I'd love to ask Director Murray Lerner about this. I've always found the issue of the edited footage rather strange. Lerner's always maintained that any missing footage was unuseable due to damage (hence the missing tracks and strange visual edits on the DVD). If that were the case then the DVD shows that when he filmed Hendrix at the same gig he used more than twice the amount of cameras as were used for The Who, which just isn't logical....unless prior to The Who taking the stage half of Lerner's film crew buggered off for an early night, or Lerner lost half the footage somewhere along the line and doesn't want to publically admit it.
I recall when this project was first issued, it was mentioned that one batch of audio tracks were found amongst a stack of rusting film tins that had been lying forgotten about in Pete's shed since 1970. This shows that there obviously wasn't much care taken with storage of this material 30 or so years ago.....which in turns leaves us the vague chance that maybe one day the rest of the footage will be discovered and we may yet see a complete version of this gig........but I doubt it!
