Well, after two boards, 15 or so polls, and much more time than necessary, it's done. I ended up using 6 songs from the final poll rather than the original idea of 5, but it doesn't matter.
So, the best of The Who as chosen by the people here:
1. My Generation 2. So Sad About Us 3. Relax 4. Dogs 5. Amazing Journey/Sparks 6. The Seeker 7. Baba O'Riley 8. Won't Get Fooled Again 9. Let's See Action 10. The Punk and the Godfather 11. Doctor Jimmy 12. Long Live Rock 13. Naked Eye 14. Slip Kid 15. Music Must Change 16. Who Are You 17. You Better You Bet 18. Eminence Front 19. Cry If You Want

Interesting. MCA should really talk to us next time they release a new WHO compilation (probably in the next 2 weeks or so).

That'll make a neat compilation me thinks. Very cool that So Sad About Us came in so high. A classic.

I made an mp3 playlist of this last night and listened to it, just out of curiosity. It's good. It's a pretty nice mix of the "hits" and the hardcore fan favorites (I'm still surprised that Dogs made it ) I was gonna put it on a CD but it's too long, and I don't care enough to burn two CDs.

Oh yeah, by the way, they're not numbered by rank or the amount of votes or anything (I don't know why I numbered them at all actually). That's just chronological order.
I don't know which songs actually got the most votes.

I like the songs however, this is in no way a greatest hits set. And please Cry If You Want has no business on a greatest hits list. JD

Interesting. I like the songs however, this is in no way a greatest hits set. And please Cry If You Want has no business on a greatest hits list. JD That's because of the way the poll was conducted. With the choices being from each album it was inevitable that tracks from the most-Moon era would appear. The poll is really a "Favourite Album Tracks" poll, not a "Greatest Hits" poll. If the poll had been conducted not via vote but via listing or 'mailing in' your most loved, it's doubtful that more than one post-Moon track (if that) would have appeared. That's the nature of the beast.

That's the nature of the beast. This is true. But it's really the only way to do it on this board. It was just for fun, I don't care enough to set up a mail in thing or a website devoted to it. Cry if You Want was tied with Music Must Change in the final poll, so just to get it over with I put them both on the list.

I think it is a pretty good list. Of course we all have our near and dear favorites that didn't make it, but that's the way it goes. And a big thank you to BillyBill for taking the time to do this! JK

Or maybe somebody paid them not to vote. Well...obviously. I just had to get my dear Eminence Front on the list. No room for one of my favorite songs I Can See For Miles

billybill good job with the polls. the end results were interesting to see. personally this is the sort of compilation i would buy. and a compilation without behind blue eyes on it is certainly a bonus. behind blue eyes has moved itself right up to the number one spot on my "who song skip over" list.

Even though I still like it, I've heard enough of it to be tired of it. "it" being the song Behind Blue Eyes. The only other song I always skip over is 'Silas Stingy!'
