I'm seeing The Who on June 28th at Bristol FC and i live in Birmingham so I'll be traveling down for the gig. I'm trying to book train/coach tickets but was just wondering...this is my first who concert...should i expect encores etc? it starts at around 8pm ish so should i leave plenty of time for the gig to end when booking a coach/train to return to Birmingham (there is no way I'm leaving while they are still on the stage) There's no point asking how long an average who gig is..is there!? Too many questions? I'll stop now...

HI Mary, I should expect a Who set of approx two hours maybe up to 2 hours 30 min if we are lucky (I am going to the same show!) . All being well there should be an encore...but its never guaranteed!. I would only expect there not to be an encore if they play a mediocre show and are p****d off. In one show I went to (Brum NEC fri 10th sept 82), the show was a bit laclustre ( I as a 16 year old kid thought it was great!) and we only got Twist and Shout as a five minute encore. Townshend acknowledged the dodgy NEC 82 (10th) show when I saw them in 2000 at the same venue (30th Oct...brilliant show) Every time I have seen them they have played for two hours or longer. The 89 tour usually had a 3 hour show with a break inthe middle (15 mins.. ish). Quad shows in 97 was 2 hours (maybe just over) including encore. Same with 81 tour Sometimes if the show has been especially good..encore is extended and we get the odd gem..such as Naked eye...Young man blues etc Does the 8 pm start mean support band (The Zutons I think)..I so maybe we can anticipate the Who about 9.15-9.30 pm? All the best Phil in Cov

The Who have been playing encores regularly throughout the past two tours. There hasn't been one show where the "Tommy" medley ("Pinball Wizard," "Amazing Journey," "Sparks" and "See me, Feel me") hasn't been played as an encore, so expect there to be one.

Due to major Who unpredictability I've booked a hotel to stay at so i can stay as long as they're on stage. No worries about having to leave early now... ;D
