Its only a guess but all bands HAVE to finish at Hyde Park at the latest 11pm to allow the clear out, so i would persume if they played for a couple of hours they would come on around 8.30pm/9pm

I'd reccomend getting there at the start of the event. If you leave it until later, by the time The Who take the stage you won't be able to get within half a mile of 'em. Here's a picture taken from the stage at Hyde Park. If you arrive in the evening, you're gonna have fun picking your way through this lot to get within viewing distance! When I saw The Who in the park in 1996, I got there when the gates opened at noon, and had to sit through 5 hours of a bunch of acts I don't like...but I got a place up front. You really only get a choice as to where you're gonna place yourself in that first hour or so after the gates open. After that you'll pretty much have no choice but to stand in the first space you see...which will be further and further back as the day draws on. When I was there in '96, I'd been at the front about 2 hours, but had to make a break for the burger stall. If the park had been empty, it would have been easily less than a 5 minute walk. However, with a big crowd blocking my route it took about half an hour to pick my way through, past and over people. I was a bit quicker coming back, because after receiving nothing but scowls and mumbles when I'd considerately worked my way toward the stall, I decided it wasn't worth being polite on the return, so didn't really care who's fingers I trod on. And if anyone here was on the receiving end of my DM's, it serves you right for scowling and mumbling at me when I politely and carefully made my way past you the first time! Anyway! Enough digression! The moral of story is... if you leave it until late to arrive, the view you're going to get probably isn't going to be worth travelling from France for. Arrive early, sit through a bunch of bands you dislike, and the big pay-off will come at the end when you get a grandstand view of The Who. ;D

normally for these kinda gigs there is a section down the front that is seperated from the rest, so the first "x" amount of ppl that get there get a wristband so they can come and go. does anyone know if this was the case at live8??
