There are some things that work acousticly and sound great. I like the loud/electric stuff too, but a good acoustic version is alright by me. A few years ago MTV had a an "Uplugged" series, and it was huge. I got "Alice in Chains Unplugged" and it is one of my favorite CDs. Keep giving it a try and maybe you'll find something you like!

Hey I am not far behind you...The Who and I are both celebrating our 40th this year! The good thing is that I don't feel that old and people don't think I'm that old.
I am not sure what genre to put Alice in Chains in, but yeah they are pretty intense. They are no "boy band"!

I'm gonna disagree with you here rollingmule. While I don't want them to do acoustic all the time, I have no problem with one or two acoustic songs added to the set. It's a nice change of pace, and I love the way Pete plays acoustic. It doesn't have to be at 11 all the time for it to be good. Although I prefer the electric version of Naked Eye, the acoustic one is pretty cool too I think.
I think a one off show of just Pete and Roger doing an acoustic set would be really cool. Not for a permanent thing, but just for something different.

If you want an acoustic evening, go see Simon And Garfunkel. That said, a one off acoustic event would be interesting, but ONLY if they chose the correct material, not just banged out acoustic versions of the same tired 'best of' set, kinda like they did at the Bridge Benefit. There is enough mellowish material spread across the bands albums from 'Sell Out' to 'By Numbers' that would make for a fascinating evening....but acousticalising the hits? Boring. The second point is, if you want to see Pete play acoustic, you always have that opportunity at his solo shows. The Who aren't gonna be on the road forever, so you should be thankful that at the tail end of their career they're still a noisy Rock band.

I agree. If I get to see The Who again, I don't want an all acoustic show. However they could do one somewhere else and I would buy the DVD of it. JK

Well that's what I was getting at. A one off show of something different. The Bridge School thing didn't really work. But if they chose different material it would be great. I'm kinda thinking of Pete's La Jolla shows, but with Roger as well. I'm not saying The Who should do a tour of acoustic shows. I'm saying, if there was ever a Townshend/Daltrey acoustic show, I'd enjoy it. I don't want to go see Simon and Garfunkle. I've never had an opportunity to see Pete solo. I'd love it though. But I don't have the means to travel all over the place to see a gig. But if he's ever in my state, I'm there. Who said I wasn't?

I tend to agree with you Islander.
One thing though. The Unplugged series went through just about every band the world has ever seen, but never the Who. I wonder if they were approached and said no. Anyone know?

I have the acoustic shows the Who did in 1999, but although Pete is a great rhythm guitar player, he uses the same tricks on every song, making every song sound the same - when playing acoustically.
If I would let you hear some "acoustic noodling" you wouldn't be able to tell you if it's "Drowned", "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Can't Explain" or "The Kids Are Alright", because it all sounds the same, and I think that is a pity.
Acoustic Who would be possible and would be awesome, but it needs a completely different approach from Pete. It would not be loud, but it would be cool. I think.

Acoustic shows by electric bands all sound the same, nothing really innovative, strumming along monotonously all the time. Works for a song or two, and that's enough.

Simon and Garfunkel isn't acoustic this time out. They've got a big rock band backing them up, including Pino Palladino on bass. My guess is, Paul Simon can't play well enough any more to carry the show, so they've had to bring in back-up. However, it sounds good. It's given them a bigger, toughter, hard-rock sound that flies better these days than the folk/soft rock sound they used to have.
As far as The Who's acoustic set went, it didn't build enough the first night, but by the second show they'd already improved the setlist and made it sound more Who-like. Given a little practice, I think they'd work it out just fine. Most crowds aren't going to go for it, though. Whofans want to hear Pete on electric.

And John's heavy bass (with the usual effects) during that set, was just ridiculous.
