Might have been covered but is Pino playing this tour? The reason I bring this up is that he`s currently playing with Jeff Beck who starts the European leg of his tour in July. Seems unlikely JB will hire a new player half way through a tour. Any ideas regarding this? Here`s a link to Jeff Beck`s site which appears to confirm that Pino is playing in his band.... www.jeffbeck.com/jeffbeck_tour.html( I realise his band has changed recently and could change again before the Euro dates)

Don't think badly of Pino just because he plays with a dork like Mayer.
Palladino has a very understated, steady style. I think a lot of Who fans are put off with him because he's not flashy like John, Pete, Keith or even Zak. He's a musician in the formal sense of the word. He's not really a showman.
I've no idea what he'll do about Jeff Beck's dates. Clearly one commitment has to go.

Pino sounded really good with Mayer. That's where he's in his element.

You don't like Pino, Pete's rig, Roger's voice...Maybe it's best that you steer clear of latter day efforts by the band, jimana. It's clearly not your cup of tea.

Fair enough. To be honest I haven't listened that closely to Mayer's records. He strikes me as the worse type of gutless musician. Very easy on the ears, I suppose.

Gutless? Jazz is tough to play. Even if it's not your cup of tea, you ought to respect it. You're right it doesn't often leave the musicians deaf.

Well, he does seem to think it's blues, but he's more of a jazz man, I think. Have you heard the trio play?

Jimana, you're an idiot. Pino can play *anything*, can certainly Who tunes. They're not exactly rocket science in the chord changes department.
However, covering John Entwistle's stuff is quite a challenge. However, for a guy like Pino, that knows how to figure this stuff out and can really play, I'd have to say that Pino is one of the only bass players today that can really hold that s**t down. He sounds awesome on the 2004 Boston show. Pino sounds better on that DVD doing Entwistle than Pete and Roger do on parts they originally performed.
I sure hope Roger has worked his voice back to something like it used to be.

I wasn't talking about chords and Pino only bass player, now there's freaking biggest joke in the world... he sounds bad..
Surely you realise that There's nothing Roger can do to 'worked his voice back to something like it used to be.'

As someone already said in this thread, you obviously don't like anything about the current version of the band. With this likely to be the last big tour and us now knowing for sure that there are no lineup or significant gear changes, maybe it's time for you to just stop caring? There's no need to make the same complaint about something in every thread if you know nothing's ever going to change. Focus your energy elsewhere maybe...another band? Or just listen to the old boots that you actually do like or some random track that no one else would ever care about like Hall of the Mountain King and enjoy yourself.

Funkifized, there's no justification to throw out a personal insult just because someone has a different opinon to you. Please check the rules concerning this, coz it's not really a good way to open your first post on the forum! I personally don't think Pino is necessarily the best choice for The Who either, so I guess I'm an idiot too. That said, when the new material is aired on the upcoming tour, Pino may become more acceptable to fans who currently find his style of playing to lack the requisite amount of 'Whoness'. After all this will be material that he worked on, so he will be native to the sound.
