6. Eyesight to the Blind a.k.a. "Born Blind" (Sonny Boy Williamson) – 1:58 "Born Blind"?? Tom, I think I'm right in saying that... Sonny Boy Williamson originally recorded the track under the title name of 'Born Blind' , However, it seems as though Pete changed a few of the lyrics and thus it became 'Eyesight to the blind'. Original lyric You been talkin' about your woman, I sure wish that you cold see mine You been talkin' about your woman, I sure wish that you cold see mine Every time the little girl start to lovin', she bring eyesight to the blind Her daddy must have been a millionaire, cause I can tell by the way she walk Her daddy must have been a millionaire, cause I can tell by the way she walk Every time she start to lovin', the deaf and dumb begin to talk All right... (solo) I remember one Friday morning the little girl was makin' up her bed, Man in the next room was dyin', stopped down and held up his head He said Man, ain't she pretty And the whole state know she's fine Every time she start to lovin', she bring eyesight to the blind Let's go now... (solo) In this day and age, both record companies and artists have to be very careful about giving 'full' accreditation. Considering Led Zeppelin's on-going legal battle, perhaps the record company is just making sure that they completely cover themselves. ' Born Blind' is certainly the first time I've ever seen it appear on a Who track listing. Very odd. Why now? I can't think of any other reason for it. www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/jun/30/led-zeppelin-sued-dazed-and-confused?CMP=twt_gu

I'm pretty sure Sonny Boy was given full credit for the tune on the Tommy album. I don't recall it mentioning PT at all in the song credit.
That was over forty years ago, so I may be wrong......but I don't think I am here.

@ Gerrard2: Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now.
But in Who terms, that song was never referred to as "Eyesight to the Blind (aka "Born Blind")". It's always been: "Eyesight to the Blind (The Hawker)".

On the original UK LP it was called simply "The Hawker". The US LP changed it to "Eyesight to the Blind". Both credit Sonny Boy Williamson as author.
The "Eyesight to the Blind" title comes from Mose Allison's cover version which is where Pete heard it. An early draft of Tommy included two other Allison tracks, "Young Man Blues" and "Country House".

So they're f***ng up the running order on Hull the way they did with Leeds? Great, just great...
What we need is a bootleg like LAL Complete for Hull so we can have the show as it was, not as they want it to be...

Whofanatic,
The compilers of the set probably think that the Leeds Deluxe re-issue was the correct running order of the original show and tweaked the Hull show to mirror that......
Wankers.

kempo, no kidding...the cluelessness in the Who camp over the last 16 years (since the reissues began) is shocking... whoireland, it's not as easy as that...the stage banter/segues are all f**ked up, too...for instance, if you do what you suggest on an iPod (I've tried it), they announce Summertime Blues after A Quick One and then launch into Overture...it doesn't work

Shouldnt have to! Spendin X amount on the whole reissue you would think it would be done properly and to a very high standard!

I think it's just unfortunate the cd format is time ltd. A break in Tommy would also be annoying and people would moan they can't listen to it straight thru Maybe they should do as Tom petty and start looking to blu Ray audio

I wonder how Hull will differ from LAL sonically. Will slapback echo be added to Hull as it was to LAL? Was the same recording equip used both nights?

Was the same recording equip used both nights? Being recorded at one day interval, I would say definitely yes.

^I agree, but it's a good question...the echo on LAL was ridiculous, especially as they were claiming in the booklet that Pete was utilizing the "natural echo" of the hall to achieve the effects (especially on Magic Bus)...yet when you listen to the pure, untouched bootleg, there is NO echo whatsoever other than a TINY amount that is naturally occurring...so I'm going to go into this one a little cynically (we've been burned too many times already!)

Honestly, they're damn good but so is Leeds...I wonder just how "glaringly" better Hull was over Leeds, according to Roger, or if it's a subtle difference

Honestly, they're damn good but so is Leeds...I wonder just how "glaringly" better Hull was over Leeds, according to Roger, or if it's a subtle difference After I just recently read in the Record Collector magazine article on Live At Leeds that the band went in the studio shortly after the recording was made and doubled the ENTIRE backing vocals in the studio (which is even on the LAL Complete bootleg), has really lessened my enthusiasm for the Leeds recording. I am really hoping that AFTER the first 4 tracks (with the flown in bass), that the Hull recording will be basically "untampered with" and may end up being more pleasing to me than Leeds. I hate live recordings that have been tampered with in the studio - that's why I love bootlegs so much. The 3 tracks on VFABSP do sound excellent!

I have ordered from the U.S - it should come in between £60 and £63 taking import VAT, postage etc into account.... and it may come down in price even more. Amazon have a price guarantee in place so you only pay the lowest price... well worth ordering from them. Downside is the wait.... but to save nearly £30 and not be ripped off at UK prices - it's worth it!

I hate live recordings that have been tampered with in the studio I don't know why they said that in the magazine but I'm convinced most backing vocals on the Leeds multitrack tapes are the original ones. Only a few parts are noticeably different from the audience recording (I Can't Explain, My Generation...), the rest doesn't sound perfect enough to be a studio overdub in my opinion.
